Frequently Asked Questions

You will receive an email indicating that your application was received and submitted correctly; this is how you know your application is complete. If you do not receive an email, go to the online application to carefully review it, and make sure it was submitted correctly. Completed applications are held in the online system until after the July 1 deadline. The application will still indicate a “Pending” status on the website until after official notification letters are mailed. Remember, we must also receive an official transcript, (returning students only) mailed from your school to our office for the application to be complete.

Applications are open annually from April 1 to July 1. Completed applications are then reviewed by the Selection Committee in a meeting held within 30 days following the application deadline. Decisions regarding acceptance and denial are made during the meeting of the Selection Committee.  Official notification letters of acceptance or denial are sent after the Selection Committee meets and mailed (U.S. Certified Mail) promptly thereafter. The Scholarship Administrator will also send a follow up letter and email with detailed instructions on how to obtain tuition funding.

Your stepparent must be legally married to your biological parent and legally bound to you (responsible for your welfare) for you to be eligible to apply for funding.

Yes. As long as your stepparent is legally married to your biological parent and legally bound to you (responsible for your welfare) for you to be eligible to apply for funding, even if you attend school in another state.

A minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA (unweighted on a 4.0 scale), which will be verified by official transcripts.

No. The Larry H. Miller Education Foundation holds firmly to the guidelines that to remain eligible for scholarship funding, recipients must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above.

  • If you are unmarried and your parent is a full-time employee of the Larry H. Miller Company, or an eligible company managed by the Larry H. Miller Company, you can take classes at your own expense, and work toward improving your GPA. When you can supply official transcripts verifying a 2.5 GPA, you may reapply for scholarship funding during the annual application window of April 1 to July 1.
  • If you are married or your parent is no longer a full-time employee for the Larry H. Miller Company, or an eligible company managed by the Larry H. Miller Company and your GPA drops below 2.5, you are no longer eligible for the LHM Dependent Child Scholarship and cannot reapply for scholarship funding.

No. Transcripts are not required after each semester, only when reapplying for the scholarship annually from April 1 – July 1, and only for returning students. New applicants are not required to submit a transcript.

Once you are accepted, you are eligible to attend every semester for that academic year (Fall, Spring, Summer). That said, you must attend at least one semester in the Fall or Spring as a full-time student to be eligible to take classes in the Summer. If you do not take classes as a full-time student in either the Fall or Spring semester, you may not take classes in the Summer.

No, you do not have to take classes in the Summer. If you choose to do so, you are not required to attend full-time (12+ credits). If you have attended as a full-time student in the previous Fall and/or Spring and have funding remaining in your account from your annual $10,000 allotment, you may use that money to help finance your tuition for the Summer semester (not to exceed $5000).

Have you submitted a Tuition Funding Form through your account at scholarship.lhm.com? Proof of full-time enrollment and an itemized financial statement from your school must be submitted before funding can be processed. Once the Tuition Funding Form has been submitted and reviewed for approval, an email will be sent to you via the email address provided on your account. This email is indication that the check has been sent to your school. Please, allow 1 to 3 weeks for the check to arrive at your school and be processed. For a list of schools that direct bill the LHM Education Foundation, please visit the website.

The LHM Education Foundation scholarship provides funding to most accredited schools. The student must email the Administrator of the scholarship AND submit a Change of School Request Form through the LHM Education Foundation Scholarship website. The request will be sent to the Selection Committee for review. If approved, you will receive a decision by email and the school will be changed on your LHM Education Foundation account.

If you received funding prior to getting married, marriage does not result in a loss of scholarship funding. However, once you are married, you must attend every fall and spring semester and you must maintain the required 2.5 GPA. If you do not meet both requirements, your scholarship funding will automatically be canceled, and you will not be eligible to reapply.

If the Dependent Child recipient has been approved to receive scholarship funding while their parent is a full-time employee of the Larry H. Miller Company, or an eligible company managed by the Larry H. Miller Company, and if the scholarship approval is maintained by continuing to meet all eligibility requirements, the Dependent Child can continue to reapply annually for the scholarship. However, these recipients must attend every fall and spring semester, must maintain the required 2.5 GPA, and must earn 12 credits or more each semester. If the Dependent Child fails to do so, the scholarship will automatically be canceled, with no opportunity to reapply.

No. We do not have a program for part-time students. Scholarship recipients must enroll, remain a full-time student, and earn 12 credits or more each semester to qualify for and maintain scholarship funding.

If the scholarship recipient drops below full-time status at any point throughout the semester, the Dependent Child will be required to repay the LHM Education Foundation any money already sent to the school for that semester/quarter.

Unmarried dependents may reapply for scholarship funding once they resume full-time student status. However, married students and those whose parents are no longer full-time employees of the Larry H. Miller Company, or an eligible company managed by the Larry H. Miller Company, cannot reapply.

No, the money is not yours to keep. The LHM Education Foundation tries to educate the schools that tuition funds may not be refunded to the students; however, occasionally a school will send the student a refund. Those funds must be returned to the LHM Education Foundation. These funds can only be used to fund tuition and mandatory registration/class fees.

The Larry H. Miller Education Foundation Dependent Child Scholarship is a “top off” scholarship. If the student has other tuition-only scholarships, those funds are applied before the LHM Education Foundation funds. If the additional scholarship can be used for other expenses other than tuition such as housing, food, etc. then the LHM Education Foundation scholarship will be applied to tuition first.

Pell Grants, loans, federal aid, or other sources of funding that can be used for living expenses, will not count against your eligibility to receive funding from the Larry H. Miller Education Foundation Dependent Child Scholarship. Example: If your tuition is $3000.00 and your Pell Grant is $2500.00, the Education Foundation will stay pay the full $3000.00 towards tuition.

If the degree you are obtaining requires a study abroad program, the scholarship will fund this. However, the scholarship ONLY covers tuition for the program and must be paid to the school. We do not fund to third party study abroad schools and programs or any school outside of the United States. We do not fund room, board, or travel expenses.

No, the book stipend covers only required books outlined in your class syllabus. This includes e-books, rentals, and subscriptions. Please do not submit for computers, uniforms, shoes, goggles, aprons, knives, guns, tools, cosmetology/aesthetician kits, notebooks, paper, paints, electronic devices, etc. Please allow 1 to 2 months for the book reimbursement to arrive in the mail.

No, scholarships are not deferred. You are welcome to reapply once you return to your academic pursuit if your parent is a full-time employee with the Larry H. Miller Company, or an eligible company managed by the Larry H. Miller Company.
